Metronome

The Metronome is a click track tied to the transport. It plays a short sound on every beat, with an accented click on the first beat of each bar so you can hear where the bar starts rather than just where the beats are.

Using it

Toggle the metronome from the transport bar. It starts and stops with playback, and follows the track's tempo — including changes you make while the transport is running.

Why you want it

The metronome matters most in two situations:

• Recording a take. Playing or singing into the Recorder against a click is what makes a take line up with the grid afterwards. Recording without one guarantees you will be fighting the warp controls later.
• Playing a part in live. When you are performing on the keyboard rather than drawing notes, the click is what keeps your timing honest before any quantisation gets involved.
