Quickstart

Go from an empty page to a looping four-bar idea in about five minutes.

This walkthrough gets you to a sound as quickly as possible, then to a loop you can save and share. You do not need an account to make noise — only to keep what you made.

Before you start

Jam Club needs a modern browser with Web Audio support (current Chrome, Edge, Firefox or Safari). Browsers refuse to start audio until you interact with the page, so the very first click or key press is what unlocks sound — if the first thing you do is silent, click anywhere and try again.

Step 1 — Open a track

Opening the app drops you into a working track. You can also start from someone else's: the Explore gallery lists public tracks, and any of them can be opened and remixed into your own copy.

Step 2 — Add an instrument

Add an instrument from the instrument picker. If you want a sound you can shape from scratch, choose the Synth; for something playable immediately, the SoundFont loads real General-MIDI instruments like an acoustic grand piano.

Step 3 — Arm it

Click the instrument's column header to arm it. The armed instrument is the one that receives your keyboard, MIDI and grid edits — if notes are not landing where you expect, this is almost always why.

Step 4 — Write some notes

You have three ways in:

  • Play the on-screen keyboard at the bottom of the editor, with your mouse or your computer keys.
  • Draw notes in the note grid — click a cell to place a note, drag its edge to lengthen it.
  • Toggle drum steps if you added a Drum Machine, where each row is a voice and each cell a sixteenth.

Step 5 — Press play

Hit the spacebar (or the play button in the transport bar) to start the loop. Spacebar toggles playback from anywhere in the app. The playhead sweeps the grid, and your notes loop for as long as the instrument's beats-per-loop setting says.

Step 6 — Shape the sound

With the loop running, start turning things:

  • Filter cutoff and resonance are the fastest way to change a sound's character.
  • The amp envelope (ADSR) decides whether notes stab or swell.
  • Presets give you a finished starting point — the Movement presets even ship their own modulation.
  • Effects add delay, chorus, drive and more.

Step 7 — Save it

Saving requires an account. Once signed in, save the track and it gets a permanent, SEO-friendly URL of the form /track/my-track-name-<id>. From there you can set its visibility, share the link, or invite people to collaborate live.
